Modes of Transport
BLS Ambulance – Basic Life Support Stretcher transport.
A BLS Ambulance is a specially designed vehicle for the safe and effective transport
for patients that are unable to be transported by other means. This includes patients
that need to be carried downstairs, unable to maintain their balance in a sitting
position in a moving vehicle or due to the nature of their injuries, unable to sit
at a 90 degree angle. All service is beside to bedside.
All ambulances are equipped with emergency lights, 2-way communications with the
company’s central dispatch, hospital and police emergency systems, oxygen, basic
life saving equipment, a stretcher and 2 technicians. All ambulances are licensed
and inspected according state requirements (according to vehicles home state requirements).
Wheelchair (MAV) - Also know as Ambulette, Wheelchair
Van or Mobility Assistance Vehicle (MAV) – A Wheelchair Van is a specially designed
vehicle for the safe and effective transport for patients that are wheelchair bound
or unable to ambulate safely on their own. The patient remains seated in their wheelchair
while a hydraulic lift safely raises the wheelchair into the van. Each van features
specially designed and state approved systems for the securing either a company
owned wheelchair or patient’s wheelchair. All vehicles are equipped with seatbelts
for the patients as well. Most vehicles can accommodate regular wheelchairs, high
performance chairs and power chairs. Most vans feature raised roofs, 1 technician,
2-way communications, basic first aid supplies and extra seating for home health
aids or family members. All service is door to door.
Medical Car Service(MCS) – Medical Car Service (MCS)
is by far our most popular mode of transport. Designed for the ambulatory patient
that requires transport to doctor appointments, physical therapy or other medical
appointments. All transports are performed in modern sedans and mini vans for patient
comfort and access. Most importantly, Med-X only utilizes professional, experienced
drivers in fully insured vehicles. Med-X does not use private individuals operating
private vehicles or taxi services. All drivers are professionally attired and groomed.
All vehicles are non smoking and company owned. MCS service is provided door to
door.
Aero Medical Transportation – Often times due to the
nature of a patients injuries or illness and the distance they must travel, Aero
Medical Transportation is the only safe option. Anytime a person must travel more
then 200 miles, Aero Medical transportation is a practical option. Med-X provides
3 levels of Aero Medical service. Each level is designed to meet the patient’s medical
needs while remain cost effective for the insurer.
- Dedicated Air Ambulance – These specially designed fixed
wing aircraft (planes) are designed to transport the most serious of cases distances
over 200 miles. Each aircraft is pressurized and equipped with all necessary medical
equipment and supplies. The type of aircraft and medical staff is determined by
our Medical Director and the patient’s attending physician. Luggage and family members
maybe able to accompany the patient on the flight based on the patient’s medical
needs and weight/space allowances. All Air Ambulance service includes ground ambulance
services to/from the airport.
- Commercial Stretcher – This service is available via
several commercial airlines, usually on transcontinental flights. A section of a
commercial aircraft can be sectioned off and reconfigured to accommodate a stretcher
and medical staff. The patient’s privacy is protected by curtains and medical staff
can attend to the patient during flight. Med-X provides all staff and medical equipment
as well ground transportation. This service is subject to availability and approval
from the airline’s medical director.
- Medical Air Escort (MAE) – MAE is designed for the patient
that needs that extra hand while traveling. Patient’s that are candidates for this
service usually suffer from non life threatening illnesses/injuries and semi ambulatory.
Med-X books first class passage for your patient and our escort on commercial flights.
The escort is there to assist the patient with luggage, boarding and needs that
arise during flight. All arrangements including ground transportation are made through
Med-X. Ground transportation can be arranged by car service or wheelchair van depending
on the patients needs. If the patient needs medication during flight for pain management,
a nurse escort can be arranged. This service is available both domestically and
internationally.
